If you heard the KWM Oscar Show, you know that bit of news delighted Ethan and Kelly who had both seen the film and raved about it. No Country was the best film and won, Daniel Day Lewis and Javier Bardem were the best and won. Not much to say about it. In my opinon the single best moment were the speeches by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, the writers of the Oscar winning song from the film Once. Listen to the words of the speeches and try not to be inspired. Click Here to see it if it does not embed properly or if you can't view it below.   " Visit the CCFS Website! " Contact Us (email)   The Corpus Christi Film Society Newsletter - 07.18.07 VOTE IN THE ONLINE POLL....WHICH REMAINING SUMMER MOVIE ARE YOU MOST INTERESTED IN? - CLICK HERE TOO BIG FOR ONE NIGHT - CC7D SCREENING DATE CHANGES TO DATES (PLURAL) ONE NIGHT CAN'T HOLD THE CC FILMMAKING SCENE!!!! The June 13 Kickoff Event for CC7D was an uproarious affair where 36 teams (take a minute and soak that in!) registered to make their films. Right now over 300 people are wrapping up their films for the Corpus Christi 7 Day Film Project.   Who says there's no filmmaking scene in Corpus Christi? 36 teams at 7 minutes average length is almost 5 hours of films. 37 teams bringing their cast and crew and a loved one or two...that's almost 500 people...before the general public shows up. So one night could not hold us. An amazing success of filmmaking participation before the filmmakers started rolling. What that means is that the screening has been moved to two nights. Those dates are Thurs, June 28, and Friday, June 29. There is no June 22 event any longer. June 28 will be Amateur Night, watching the amateur category films and handing out the amateur awards; June 29 will be Professional Night screening and awards with an encore viewing of the amateur winners. Both events begin at 7PM. This Wednesday, June 20, is the Film Turn In or the "It's in the Can" party. That begins at 7PM and all are invited to attend. The filmmakers will be rushing their films in and then we're sticking around to decompress and tell/hear war stories. We hope you'll come support the filmmakers as they cross the finish line. FILM EVENTS Tuesday, June 19Movie Tuesday at House of RockFree flicks usually paired with a band - Free; 9:30 PMJune 19 - The WarriorsInfo: 361-882-ROCK (7625); 511 Starr St.; Map More CC7D Info later this week, Joe HilliardCCFS This newsletter and all content © 2005 - The Corpus Christi Film Society. Rent the movie now, watch it, and listen in to MOVIE HOUR on KEYS WEEKEND MAGAZINE, 11AM-Noon on 1440 KEYS AM THIS Saturday. Love the film? Hated it? Call in and let us know. My usual cautionary tale: even if every Blockbuster and Hollywood Video ALL have M*A*S*H in stock, that's only 25 or so copies to go around.  I do hope you will take the time to rent the movie and then listen in THIS Saturday. If you have the movie now or if you find it tonight, watch it and send it back quick for others to maybe catch Friday night.   THIS WEEK: July 29: MASH (1970) August 12: The Last Picture Show (1971) April 26: The French Connection (1971) September 9: The Godfather (1972) IN THEATERS THIS WEEKEND  Here we weekly highlight noteworthy, smaller or independent films. Check out moviefone.com for complete listings in CC. CLERKS 2After a week of ruminating over last weekend's release Clerks 2, I am upgrading my thoughts from good to very good. Kevin Smith is a love or hate kind of filmmaker who puts out a decent to very good film every other release. Clerks: Amazing: Mallrats: borderline horrible; Chasing Amy: Very good; Dogma: A mess; Jay and Silent Bob: Good for the most die hard Smith fans only; Jersey Girl: A mess; and now...Clerks 2. The best film he's done since Chasing Amy easily. If you like Smith you'll love Clerks 2. If you hate Smith, avoid it. His most heartfelt, and best crafted movie to date. MIAMI VICE The only reason to see this is director Micheal Mann. Otherwise, really? Miami Vice? INDIE WATCH (or 'Movies that probably won't come here') Little Miss Sunshine - Opens Tomorrow elsewhere - Critical success at Sundance has a very high Tomatometer reading. Very comprehensive website...check that out. The film tells the story of the Hoovers, one of the most endearingly fractured families ever seen on motion picture screens. Together, the motley six-member family treks from Albuquerque to the Little Miss Sunshine pageant in Redondo Beach, California, to fulfill the deepest wish of 7-year-old Olive, an ordinary little girl with big dreams. Along the way the family must deal with crushed dreams, heartbreaks, and a broken-down VW bus, leading up to the surreal Little Miss Sunshine competition itself. On their travels through this bizarrely funny landscape, the Hoovers learn to trust and support each other along the path of life, no matter what the challenge. (from imdb.com) Wordplay - Been out a couple weeks...but not in CC - Wordplay starts as the story of the New York Times crossword puzzle, and the current and historical creative forces behind it. But as it dances across the story, filling it in as one of its devotees might across the puzzles, it reveals an entire amazing world behind its practice, creation, and history, from the annual crossword convention in Stamford to the breadth of individuals who enjoy it daily.
