NEW MUST ATTEND FILM SERIES BEGINS THIS
FRIDAY NIGHT: SOUTH TEXAS CINEMATHEQUE--SEE AN INTERESTING DOC AND
MEET THE FILMMAKERS
This Friday, there's a must attend local film event. If you can go, you
should...and here's why:You want NEW film events in CC? You want
ALT film events in CC? They only happen if someone creates them. Someone
is trying and this event needs your support.TAMUCC has hired a new
Comm professor, Edward Tyndall, who's ready to get some stuff moving. He
and fellow prof Ethan Thompson have created a screening series called
South Texas Cinematheque that will be bringing internationally recognized
documentary filmmakers to CC for screenings. The first one is this
Friday:
“South Texas Cinémathèque,” a new film series that will bring
internationally recognized documentary filmmakers to Corpus Christi,
debuts with a screening of “Noah’s Arc,” on Friday, Nov. 13, at 7:30 p.m.
in the H-E-B Auditorium of the Art Museum of South Texas.
“Noah’s Arc” directed by David Redmon and Ashley Sabin follows
international modeling scouts as they scour Siberian landscapes in search
of teen girls to transform into models. The 85-minute film explores how
these teens navigate the world of commercial advertising while attempting
to launch careers in Tokyo, Japan. Following the screening, Redmon and
Sabin will discuss their film with the audience. Previous films by Redmon
and Sabin have been shown at leading film festivals, including the
Sundance Film Festival and South by Southwest.
“South Texas Cinémathèque,” which is sponsored by Texas A&M
University-Corpus Christi and the Art Museum of South Texas,” is designed
to broaden South Texas residents’ access to innovative independent films.
The series will host three filmmakers each year.
The Art Museum of South Texas, located at 1902 N. Shoreline Blvd., is
affiliated with Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. The film series
is free to the public. For more about the filmmakers, go to

LOCALLY-PRODUCED EL
SEGUNDO AVAILABLE ON DVD
Local filmmaker and film enthusiast Roy Trejo let us know about his
film El Segundo's DVD release...
Authentic SOUTH TEXAS FILM now on Sale...
EL SEGUNDO (now available on DVD at www.elsegundomovie.com and as a
digital download at Amazon.com) was shot here in South Texas (CC,TX and
Alice,TX) and it incorporates much of the local lore of this region
sometimes referred to as THE MAGIC VALLEY. It is a Texan Independent
feature length movie through and through which stars two major talents
Alana De la Garza (LAW AND ORDER) and Pedro
Armendariz, Jr. (THE MASK OF ZORRO).
Alana De la Garza, originally from El Paso,Tx was cast out of New York
City when she was prominently a print model for such national magazines as
Maxim before her television appearances on
CSI: Miami and her current role as the assistant
DA to Sam Waterston on NBC's Law and Order.
Pedro Armendariz, Jr. who has more than 125 movies credited to his name as
well as being a regular performer in the Theatre in Mexico City; also
hosted Mexico''s version of TV's Bloopers on Galavision. He is the
president of the Motion Picture Academy of Mexico and son to one of the
foremost figures from Mexico's Golden Age of Cinema. EL
SEGUNDO is Armendariz's' first starring role in a production
from the American Independent Cine.
Gorilla Hero Releasing, based in Los Angeles, has authored an excellent
DVD whose compression technique touts this work as the highest quality
standard def motion picture on an HD screen.
The Special Filmmaker Features on the DVD include an interview on South
Texas Filmmaking by Heidi Hovda with EL SEGUNDO
co-executive producer, co-writer and actor, Roy Misael Trejo (Trejo
Pictures). Also available, the theatrical trailer and a musical teaser
underscored by two brothers from San Diego, TX: the singing duo called
Amable. Commentary by director Hank Jacobs and Line Producer Matt
Wersinger provide insight to the uniqueness involved with filming in The
South Texas Brush and noting the principal foundation pillar for
production and completion of this groundbreaking first film being FAMILY.
The music for the movie is prominently Texan featuring Jarmon and Carter,
Phil Hurd, and crossover artist Patricia Vonne as fine examples of Texas
country music, as well as local Tejano groups like the Hometown Boys "Las
Nubes" and the immortal Tejano R.O.O.T.S. Hall of Fame Inductee, Juan
Sifuentes Jr.
The feature has been in over six festivals winning Best Feature at The
Black Earth Film Festival in Galesburg, Illinois and screened in NYC (The
PLAYERS THEATER), Park Slope, Brooklyn (The Brooklyn Hispanic Chamber of
Commerce), Austin,TX (Regal Cinema at the Arboretum), East LA (Cine Sin
FIN), Santa Fe, NM (Sante Fe Film Festival,) Brownsville, TX (CINE SOL

FIRST CC7D EVENT IS IN 3 WEEKS
CC7D 2009 is up and running. Check the CC7D Website (http://www.corpuschristifilmsociety.com/CC7D/cc7dhome.html)
which is almost fully updated. The first event is open to
everyone:2009 CC7D CAST AND CREW CALL
WHO WANTS TO MAKE A MOVIE?
The CC7D process begins Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at 6:30
p.m. when the most talented people in Corpus Christi swarm the newly
renovated THE VENUE at House of Rock, located at 511 Starr Street,
with the hope of seeing themselves on the big screen. The event is free
and open to the public.
The 2009 CC7D Cast and Crew Call is designed to aid filmmakers in
finding local talent eager to see their efforts shown on the big screen.
Filmmakers will be looking for actors to appear in their films, crew to
work behind the scenes and musicians to provide music for film scores and
soundtracks.
While not required, it is strongly suggested that those wishing to be
considered for cast bring copies of photos (a simple shot from the
shoulders up) with a resume. It is not required that photos be
professionally produced. Those with limited experience can present a fact
sheet about themselves.
In addition to finding cast and crew for their CC7D projects, many
local filmmakers will cast various film projects including commercials,
short films, feature films, industrial and music videos.
Attendance at this event does not insure a
place on a CC7D team! The purpose of this event
is to get people who want to be on a team in the same room with people who
are leading a team. It is 100% up to you to find a team to join or
convince a team to let you join. The easiest way to insure that you
will be on a CC7D Team is to create a team yourself.

AUSTIN FILM SOCIETY WORKSHOP THIS SUNDAY - THIS IS
IMPORTANT...
If you've ever wanted 'more film stuff' in CC, then I hope
you will seriously consider attending this event EVEN IF you
won't benefit from the overt purpose of it.
CCFS and Reel Simple Productions will present an
informational workshop by The Austin Film Society for local
filmmakers to receive grant monies to make films via the Texas State
Production Fund. The larger story and important part of this
message is that the Austin Film Society is coming here at all.
This is big news and I hope you'll support this.
This workshop tour is making stops all over the state in all the cities
that you would imagine they would, but has never come to Corpus Christi.
The Austin Film Society's Director of Artist Services Bryan
Poyser (and 2008 CC7D
jurist) will conduct this free informational
workshop. The out-of-town 2008 CC7D jurists were brought in to
not only up the stakes of the judging process. We brought the Austin
Film Society, the Texas Film Commission and SWAMP in to
purposefully highlight what’s going on locally. It’s starting to pay off.
They saw the CC7D films made by over 25 local filmmaking teams and are
curious to see what's really going on down here.
Come out simply to show AFS your face. Local filmmaking exists. Help
prove it.
The workshop will be on Sunday, May 17, 2009 at The Art Center of
Corpus Christi located at 100 Shoreline Blvd. The workshop will begin at
3:00 PM and last until 4:30 PM. It is free and open to everyone. No
registration is required.
The Austin Film Society's Director of Artist Services Bryan
Poyser (and 2008 CC7D jurist) will conduct this free
informational workshop about AFS's Texas
Filmmakers' Production Fund, which annually offers grants of up to
$15,000 to Texas filmmakers. He will take participants through the
application form step-by-step and screen work samples from successful
applications.
Filmmakers residing in Texas for at least one year prior to the
June 1, 2009 deadline are eligible to apply to TFPF,
which has given out over $930,000 in cash, goods and services to Texas
filmmakers since 1996. For more information on the Fund, and for a
schedule of other workshops throughout Texas, visit
here.
For more information about the Texas
Filmmakers' Production Fund visit their page at www.austinfilm.org

THE OSCARS
No huge surprises at all with the the exception of Best Actress going
to Marion Cotillard in La Vie en Rose. If you
heard the KWM Oscar Show, you know that bit of news delighted Ethan and
Kelly who had both seen the film and raved about it. No
Country was the best film and won, Daniel Day Lewis and
Javier Bardem were the best and won. Not much to say about it.
In my opinon the single best moment were the speeches by Glen Hansard
and Marketa Irglova, the writers of the Oscar winning song from the film
Once. Listen to the words of the speeches and
try not to be inspired.

CCFS Mixer Forums are designed in an attempt to bring all
the local filmmakers together to discuss what is going on in the film

projects that are in various stages of production, and create an avenue
for production to cast and fill crew positions.
During the schedule, there will be designated time called
